Aaron Hernandez's Lawyer Says The Former NFL Star 'Clearly Was Gay' After Revealing Texts Were Found On His Phone

Hernandez's college girlfriend says she found texts from men on his phone and when confronted, admitted, "You caught me lol."

One of Aaron Hernandez’s lawyers is fueling speculation around the fallen NFL star’s sexuality.

George Leontire, who was a part of the 27-year-old’s second murder trial’s defense team, described him as “clearly gay” in a docu-series about Hernandez’s life which is slated to air on Saturday night (March 17).

In Aaron Hernandez Uncovered, Leontire, who is gay himself, confirmed that Hernandez was too.

“Aaron and I spoke about his sexuality. This man clearly was gay,” he said in a teaser of the series obtained by TMZ. “[He] acknowledged it. Acknowledged the immense pain that it caused him.”

Leontire even goes as far as to say that Hernandez’s alleged homosexuality is the reason prosecutors accused him for the 2012 murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, who he would later be acquitted of as the triggerman.

“As a gay lawyer for 37 years, as a gay man who has been married to another man for over 36 years, I found it outrageous that the government would be trying to use someone's sexuality to prop up a case that they had no business bringing in the first place,” Leontire said.

Hernandez was already imprisoned for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd when he was charged with the other two murders.

During the documentary, Leontire says he believes Hernandez hated himself because of his sexuality and that it was very hard for him to come to terms with.

“I think that he also came out of a culture that was so negative about gay people that he exhibited some self-hatred,” he said.

Alyssa Anderson, who was Hernandez’s college girlfriend, also says she believes he was gay and even caught him texting with numerous men while they were dating.

“Back in college, there were text messages I saw on his phone when he came back from a trip in Connecticut (that were) from a male. (They) didn't have a name, didn't really say too much but it was a relationship with somebody and when I questioned it,” she said.

Hernandez denied being gay back then, but Anderson claims he later admitted it in letters they exchanged after his first arrest. In one, he reportedly wrote: “Please keep between this....But it's not a shock, you caught me lol.”

Aaron Hernandez Uncovered is slated to be shown in two parts. The first begins on Oxygen tonight.
