Heartbreaking: Nursing Student Shot Dead at House Party
An intelligent and beautiful recent collage graduate died at a Miami house party when she was caught in crossfire.
Alexandra Dean just received her nursing degree from Nova Southeastern University a few weeks ago. On Saturday night, her life was cut short after she arrived at the party in Miami Gardens around 11 p.m.
Someone fired a shot when a fight began outside the house and Dean was struck. She died shortly after at Aventura Hospital.
The 23-year-old’s loved ones and her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sisters immediately shared posts on social media grieving over the news of her tragic death just one week after her grandfather died in Jamaica.
One friend described Dean as “a beautiful soul” and posted a photo of her smiling brightly, wearing her cap and gown at graduation.
“She was always there for you,” said Taylor Shaw, 23, a high school friend who spoke to Dean two weeks ago to congratulate her on graduating. “She was just perfect.”
Dean was someone friends and family admired as she was focused on becoming a nurse like her mother and succeeded in a tough program.
“I have never met anyone so determined in my life to be successful,” said Jessica Meijia, another high school friend.
“Alexandra was beloved by her fellow students and faculty, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family,” said the university’s spokeswoman Julie Spechler.
Police have not released information on suspects involved in the shooting, but a woman at the party tweeted the devastation of seeing Dean shot: “Looking at her body lay in that pool of blood literally broke my heart #ripalex”
A GoFundMe account was set up early Sunday afternoon to help cover funeral expenses. So far it’s received over $2,500 in donations.
