Here's Why This SC Cop Will Receive No Charges for Body Slamming a Black Teen Girl

The violent incident happened back in October of 2015.

The South Carolina officer who slammed a Black teenage girl to the ground in a viral video will not face any charges.

Officer Ben Fields was videotaped slamming a student to ground after she refused to turn over her cellphone. The incident took place at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina.

Now, Richland County Solicitor Dan Johnson is said to have found no probable cause to charge Officer Ben Fields with anything for the altercation. The report then went on to claim that witnesses felt the video displayed a situation that was less worse than perceived.

After the video gained much national attention, Officer Fields was fired by the South Carolina Sheriff’s Department.

However, many hoped that this 11-month investigation would result in charges of assault for the officer. Fields is at least twice the size of the student he tackled and many found his actions inappropriate and excessive.
