[Video] Homeowner Kills Teen Burglar and Family Argues How Else Could He Get His Money for School Clothes

Senselessness.

A homeowner whose property had previously been burglarized wasn’t going to let another home invader get away with it again.

The 54-year-old woman in Northwest Miami-Dade shot and killed her would-be burglar as she saw him trying to exit the rear of her home. Now, 17-year-old Trevon Johnson’s family is fighting back, saying she had no right to end his life because how else could he “get his money to have clothes to go to school.”

Due to her previous home invasion, the woman bought a licensed gun and put a security system with cameras around the property. The security system is what alerted her to the break-in and, with police already on the way; she rushed home to find the teen leaving through a window.

After a confrontation, one shot was fired, police said. Johnson, who was a student at D.A. Dorsey Technical College, was pronounced dead shortly after at the hospital.

“I don’t care if she has her gun license,” Johnson’s cousin, Nautika Harris, told local news. “That is way beyond the law.”

The family argues that the deceased teen, who was described as a funny, goal-oriented teen big on education, didn’t take anything out of the home and couldn’t understand why she shot him even after authorities were called.

“You have to look at it from every child’s point of view that was raised in the hood,” Harris continued. “How he gonna get his money to have clothes to go to school?”
