10 Events That Celebrate and Elevate New Orleans 10 Years After Hurricane Katrina

Solange and Special Guests for Make It Right  - This year marks 10 years since Hurricane Katrina changed New Orleans forever. The 10-Year Journey: Reflections of Family, Identity and New Orelans  - Photographer L. Kasimu Harris’s work will be displayed to celebrate the spirit of New Orleans. Harris's work focuses on the visual narrative of life in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Opening on Aug. 13, the exhibition will also include a performance by Grammy-nominated trumpeter Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah. Katrina Movies: Double Feature No. 2 - Katrina’s Smallest Victims will be showing at Greenwell Springs Road Regional Library in Baton Rouge, La. This documentary follows the doctors, nurses and hospital crews that cared for babies during the storm and the recovery period. Surviving Katrina will also be shown during the event. This docudrama is inspired by eyewitness accounts recounting how local, state and federal responses failed the New Orleans community. The event will take place on Aug. 16 at 2:30 p.m. (Photo: Mario Tama/Getty Images)The Power of Women Luncheon  - The Power of Women Luncheon is being held to honor the extraordinary community of women leaders who helped to facilitate the recovery process after Hurricane Katrina. The luncheon’s keynote speaker will be Hoda Kotb of the TODAY Show. All proceeds collected at the event will be donated to American Red Cross branches in Louisiana.
