Father's Day Feels: Watch Kids Read #LoveLetters to Their Incarcerated Dads

Google's project puts a human face on mass incarceration.

Not everyone gets to be with their dad on Father's Day.
Google has teamed up with "Love Letters," a national campaign that allows the voices of children with fathers in prison to wish the dads they love a happy Father's Day, for a groundbreaking project that puts a human face on the crisis of mass incarceration. "Love Letters" did the same for Mother's Day in an effort to give these children, who are themselves victims of mass incarceration, a voice.

The project raises awareness about the fact that mass incarceration not only impacts those who are on the inside, but the ones they leave behind, as well.

The loss of a father to incarceration negatively affects children's educational, social and emotional well being, and can last for decades. Children with an incarcerated parent are more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, and ADD/ADHD.

"Love Letters" and Google hopes that this video will enlighten millions to the firsthand impact of mass incarceration on children and families. "At Google, we like disruptions, and if there is a system worth disrupting, it's the criminal justice system," VP, David Drummond, said.

The video is beautiful, emotional, and a guaranteed tearjerker that will make all of us lucky enough to be with our father's on this special day more grateful indeed.
