Amy Winehouse’s Family Blasts ‘Misleading’ Film About Singer

New documentary is set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival.

The tragic death of Amy Winehouse continues to haunt her family, even more now that they've discovered how they're being portrayed in an upcoming film.

Amy, an Asif Kapadia-directed documentary based on the life of the powerhouse vocalist, is scheduled to premiere at Cannes Film Festival next month. However, a spokesperson for the family has announced, it is "misleading and contains basic untruths."

"Fundamentally," said Chris Goodman via a statement to the Associated Press, "the Winehouse family believes that the film does a disservice to individuals and families suffering from the complicated affliction of addiction." He said, the doc suggests that her family did little to help her, when in reality, there was a "huge effort from all concerned ... at all stages."

The fim-makers once had the family's blessing, according to a separate statement. They said they set out to create the project with "total objectivity" and interviewed about 100 of her "friends, family," and "former partners and members of the music industry that worked with her."

Winehouse, a Grammy Award-winning artist (to the tune of five trophies in one night for her Back to Black album) passed away in July 2011 at the age of 27 from accidental alcohol poisoning. Her levels were more than five times the drunk-driving limit.
