Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean Shoot Down Rumors of a Fugees Reunion

Sorry, folks.

Could the born-again hooligans be making a comeback? Unfortunately for fans of The Fugees, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Over the weekend, speculation arose that the '90s group comprised of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras was reuniting after HOT 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex seemingly premiered a new track titled "The Ish" on Saturday (July 15). Considering the trio hasn't released an album in over two decades, fans were thrilled at the prospect.

Shortly after the song made its rounds on NYC airwaves, however, L-Boogie took to Twitter to address the misunderstanding and shut down rumors of a possible reunion. The "new" track was in fact an unreleased song that had been leaked.

That following Sunday, outspoken frontman Wyclef Jean echoed Lauryn's sentiments in a Twitter post of his own. “The song leaked today is an old one from past studio days." Wyclef tweeted. "I don’t condone it in any way and had no clue it was coming.”

While it's unclear when the song was recorded, one thing's for certain: the Fu-Gee-La is still very much strong when put on wax. Many fans are citing Pras's verse, in which he raps about a 2014 interview with CNN, as a point of reference: “Did an interview with CNN, North Korea crisis / I be speaking the truth so they ain’t advertise it."

This isn't the first time rumors of a reunion have circulated. In 2007, Pras shut down the possibility of a reunion due to Lauryn being in "her zone."

“We went in the studio and recorded a couple records that were incredible,” he told Billboard. “But, to put it nicely, it’s dead. Me and [Wyclef Jean], we on the same page, but Lauryn [Hill] is in her zone, and I’m fed up with that s**t. Here she is, blessed with a gift, with the opportunity to rock and give, and she’s running on some bulls**t? I’m a fan of Lauryn’s, but I can’t respect that.”

However, in 2011, Fugees' producer Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis revealed to Rap-Up that the trio could possibly reunite. “I believe there will be a day when the Fugees get together, but everyone in the group’s gotta be ready,” he said. “The Fugees are definitely going to get back together. The time will come. You’ve gotta wait, man.”

Until that fateful day comes, vibe out to "The Ish" below.
