Aretha Franklin Addresses Patti LaBelle Fight Rumor

"I've never heard anything crazier," says the Queen of Soul.

Aretha Franklin is setting the record straight about a rumored fist fight with Patti LaBelle.

Last Friday (April 11), satirical website News Nerd reported that LaBelle was arrested for going to blows with Franklin at an Atlanta concert March 20. The clearly erroneous report spread all over Twitter and Facebook, and right onto the Queen of Soul's radar.

"I've never heard anything crazier — regarding myself and Pati allegedly fighting on March 20, in Atlanta," Franklin says in a statement to sent BET.com. "On March 20, I was in New York City readying for my birthday patty (Sorry. LOL. Laughing at my typo error). I meant PARTY, which we all had one fabulous time."

According to the fake story, LaBelle, 69, was "fuming" over an earlier run-in with Franklin, 72, at the White House, when she confronted her in Atlanta. In response, Franklin "threw epic shade" at LaBelle, who removed her wig and earrings for the fight, the story says.

Even with crazy details, readers were still fooled, and all because they didn't scroll to the very bottom of the site where a disclaimer reads in part, "stories may mimic articles found in the headlines but rest assured, they are purely satirical."
