6LACK Is Glad To Promote Safe Entertainment For ‘More Than Tequila’ Campaign

The singer explains to BET the purpose of the event.

If you plan on eating chicken wings this holiday season and listen to contemporary R&B, chances are you'll want to get a taste of 6LACK's new "600 Degrees" hot sauce available in original and mango habanero flavors.

That’s not the only way that he’s turning up the heat currently. On Nov 17, 6LACK announced that he would be performing for PATRON’s More Than Tequila series, which is an initiative that spotlights Black artists and encourages viewers to donate to Black owned businesses. His show kicks off Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. ET and will feature appearances from artists that he wishes to spotlight, similar to Rapsody who performed for the series on Oct. 20 and brought Deante’ Hitchcock, GQ and Cyanca.

6LACK explains that the show is exciting for him since he picked the artists that he worked with for it and it doesn’t feel like work at all. And most importantly, aside from facilitating charitable donations for black businesses, he’s amped because it promotes safe entertainment during the current pandemic. “We’ll all be able to just have fun safely and not be promoting going outside right now because I think it's important to figure out a way to safely get into next year, be creative, and stay productive,” he says.

Here’s 6LACK on hot sauce, the More Than Tequila campaign, and more below.

The question that’s on everyone’s minds: how did you come up with the idea to create a hot sauce for the 6pc Hot rollout?

We were just sitting around and brainstorming like we always do (me and my management team) and hot sauce has always been a joking, but serious obsession of mine. It was one of those things where we thought that I would talk  about and use it so much, why not create it? We came up with the ideas and found some people to test our recipes and then help make it. We also wanted to separate the rollout plan so that it can exist without being attached to the EP. It’s something that we want to continue putting out like merch or any other product.

Speaking of 6PC Hot, you released the EP back in June. How do you feel about it now after you’ve had time with it?

It’s exactly what I wanted it to be. I look at those songs the same way, and I think that when  I was just in quarantine like everyone one else. I didn't plan on making an EP — I just made some songs that I loved, and once I was done with them, I had the urge to put them out. It was cool to give people something to look forward to so that they could listen and jam while we are all stuck in the house.

So, tomorrow is your performance for the More Than Tequila series. Do you have an idea of what you’ll be performing?

Some songs from 6pc Hot, some stuff from East Atlanta Love Letter and Free 6lack, and maybe some deep cuts and loosies.

Who are the artists that you’ll be highlighting during your set?

Mereba, who has been a longtime friend of mine since before anything happened for either of us ever. She's one of my favorite people with the pen. Then there’s BRS Kash, another LVRN artist. Besides that, it’s pretty cool to be able to work with people that I know anyway. It doesn't feel like work at all. It’s like linking up with your friends.

How did you become a part of the More Than Tequila campaign?

I was sitting around like everyone else has been and just watching things happen over the last few months. I saw many  bars and other places in Atlanta close down because nobody could really get the support they needed to stay open. The part that got to me was like, “Why not” because it’s something that benefits the community. I get to perform with my friends and then people get to watch live and donate. Donations go to restaurants and Black bars and I feel like it’s beneficial to keep the support rolling in for something that’s already hard for us to finance and keep up with on our own anyway.

What does it mean to share the spotlight with other artists that are equally as talented and capable of this campaign?

Dope! I think it goes both ways. Anyone who might listen to Mereba primarily and doesn't listen to me will get the opportunity to listen to me. Anyone who listens to Kash that doesn’t listen to me will get the opportunity to listen to me and vice versa. I’ll be able to pull from them, they’ll be able to pull from me, and we’ll all be able just to have fun safely and not be promoting going outside right now because I think it's important to figure out a way to get into next year safely, be creative, and stay productive.
