Here's Why Wale Is a Trending Topic After J. Cole's Album Announcement

Could Twitter be onto something this time?

J. Cole is hot on his 2016 tail-end album trail with 4 Your Eyez Only, so you can guarantee fans are hot on the anticipation as well.

To tease fans with a sneak peek into what we can expect from the Dreamville founder's fourth studio album, Cole dropped a documentary on Tidal complete with a fire-packed freestyle, “False Prophets.”

But according to the internet, there might be more packed into the two-minute freestyle than just heat.

Jumping straight into the freestyle with a lyrical clip loaded for his stiff, or lack thereof, hip-hop competition, many listeners suspect that Cole’s first verse was a direct shot at Kanye West and his recent unfortunate state of instability. As he leads into the second verse, however, the question of this “rapper friend” Cole describes has Twitter up in 140-character arms.

"I got a homie, he a rapper and he wanna win bad,” Cole spits. “He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that’s been had, by all the legends, so every time I see him, he stressing, talking ’bout, ni**as don’t f**k with him, the sh** is depressing.”

Cole and Wale’s longtime industry brotherhood is more than enough reason to doubt that the “G.O.M.D.” rapper's commentary was shade. But considering that Cole has never been one to claim too many “friends” within the industry, many do believe that Wale is the nameless subject of the verse.
