Flavor Flav Pleads Guilty in Assault Case

Reality star accepts reduced charges, gets probation for the incident involving his girlfriend's teenage son.

Flavor Flav can rest a bit easier in the pair of cross-country legal battles he's been facing. He took a deal in his Las Vegas assault case, and can now focus on his New York speeding charges.

The Public Enemy hype man pled guilty Monday (April 14) to two misdemeanor battery charges and was sentenced to probation for chasing his longtime girlfriend's teenage son around their Nevada home with a knife in October 2012.

In court, Flav referred to the now 18-year-old as his own. "I love my son and my son loves me, too," he said to the judge.

The plea also means continued family counseling, a far cry from the possible felony conviction and up to 12 years in prison he was facing. "I'm standing here in front of the camera, not behind bars" he said to reporters after the sentencing came in.

Senior Clark County District Court Judge Kathy Hardcastle has set an April 18 date to close the case, if Flav completes his counseling.

In New York, he pleaded not guilty, after he was arrested Jan. 9 for speeding and driving without a license in a rush to get to his mother's funeral. That case is still pending.
