There’s Been A Spike In Babies Named After These Two Rappers

Looks like we'll have little legends roaming the playground.

It looks like rappers are influencing way more than just music culture. BabyCenter.com recently unveiled its most popular baby names of 2017, and apparently there’s been a huge spike in babies being named after Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar.

According to the report, the names Chance and Kendrick saw 21 percent and 9 percent spikes, respectively, in the past year. And the names are still climbing their way to the top.

The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially since both artists have produced some of the best music in the genre. Chance’s 2016 debut album, Coloring Book, and K.Dot’s DAMN. both received critical acclaim and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. But aside from the music, the two have made great impact in their communities.

“Rappers aren’t just making good music, they’re taking center stage as cultural icons, philanthropists, and role models. Plus, their names are climbing the popularity charts,” the article on BabyCenter.com states. Chance was notably honored with the Humanitarian Award at the 2017 BET Awards for his work in rebuilding Chicago school systems and neighborhoods. Kendrick has also given back to Compton.

Other popular baby names include Jay-Z, Dre and Queen (named after Dr. Dre and Queen Latifah). Clearly, we have some little legends running around.
