Report: Bobby Shmurda Pleads Not Guilty to Gun and Murder Charges

"The government hates rap" says the rapper's lawyer.

The indicment charges against Bobby Shmurda and his GS9 crew have been revealed.

The 20-year-old rapper pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, assault, guns, and narcotics charges Thursday (Dec. 18), REVOLT reports. Shmurda, born Ackquille Pollard and his GS9 crew members were arrested at a New York City recording studio yesterday, following a long-running investigation.

Authorities confiscated 21 firearms from the gang, which is reportedly responsible for committing murders and other acts of violence. The operation was funded by crack sales, according to the NYPD.

Shmurda's lawyer believes this to be another case of the NYPD going after rappers. “It’s a bunch of bulls**t,” Howard Greenberg said. “The government hates rap and by extension hates rappers. If his name was Joe Blow, they’d have given him a desk-appearance ticket or cut him a loose from the precinct.”

Epic Records executive Sha Money XL, who signed Shmurda, said in a statement that he signs artists "from the streets" to offer them "a chance to do better in life.”

At a press conference today, Police Commissioner William Bratton called Shmurda and his clique a bunch of “mindless thugs.”
