Update: Miguel Says He Makes Better Music Than Frank Ocean

There's no competition between them.

UPDATE: Last night, Miguel released a statement that clarified his comments towards Frank Ocean. No need to compare apples to oranges, he says.

"I want to clear the air. Yes, I am competitive, we ALL have to have a level of confidence and competitiveness to put ourselves on the line day in and day out. But I also believe there’s room for all artists. That’s what WILDHEART is all about: celebrating individuality. I guess what I’m saying is, there’s no need to compare apples to oranges, there’s something out there for everyone. That’s why I’m here and I’m able to do what I do. So, thank you to everyone who enjoys my music and all love to anyone who doesn’t, we’re all here to find our own wave and that’s OK! Stay passionate, stay free, and of course stay wild!"

During his promotional run of Wildheart, which released on June 30, Miguel spoke to The Sunday Times to talk about his competitors in the R&B world. Miguel has to compete against the likes of The Weeknd and Frank Ocean, so he made sure to address them accordingly. For him, he wants to stay away from comparisons and describes his relationship with Ocean as cordial — nothing more, nothing less.

"I wouldn’t say we were friends. To be completely honest — and no disrespect to anyone — I genuinely believe that I make better music, all the way around,” he said.

He was also asked about fans comparing his music to The Weeknd and Ocean, in which he replied: "It's interesting,” he said, "but we’ll see who’s in it for the long haul. It’s like a marathon, you know?"

So Miguel thinks he’ll be in the music industry longer than them? Interesting. He’s confident in his talents.
