XXL Magazine Ending Print Edition

Publication purchased by Townsquare Media, October 2014 issue will be its last.

Soon hip hop fans will no longer be able to pick up new copies of XXL magazine.

For 17 years, the publication has been a staple in the culture of hip hop barreling its way through the music journalism doors in 1997, and after the October 2014 issue, the magazine will no longer be in print production, Billboard reports.

The change up comes after Town Square Media acquired XXL, along with fellow Harris Publication imprints King magazine, lifestyle site Antenna, and blog aggregator, Hype Machine. “The acquisition of XXL, King and Antenna from Harris Publications represents the continued growth of Townsquare Media’s national digital asset portfolio and our commitment to the cultivation of influential brands and original multimedia content in music and entertainment,” Townsquare Media’s chief content officer, Bill Wilson said in a statement.

Townsquare Media operates over 300 radio stations around the country, along with music websites like Pop Crush, and The BoomBox.

XXL is the second among three of hip hop’s most popular magazine to remain alive solely online after Vibe magazine’s was permanently banished to the ’Net.

Remaining among the trio is Source magazine, which recently celebrated its "Power 30" issue with the first annaul SOURCE360 concert at Brooklyn's Barclay's Arena, this past weekend.
