Snoop Dogg Reveals That One Time Biggie Had Him Shot At In New York

"I don’t know how the f*ck they found out about that..."

One of rap’s most treasured veterans, Snoop Dogg, is still strolling down memory lane of the life and times of his late friend and fellow West Coast legend Tupac Shakur as well as the hip-hop climate during Pac’s territorial rivalry with New York’s fallen rap sovereign Notorious B.I.G.

Admittedly, Snoop knows that tensions were high and tolerance was low at the time, but he maintained an amicable approach to the whole East Coast versus West Coast clash. He ended up learning in a rather violent way that not everyone else was on the same wavelength, though.

Uncle Snoop sat down with the hosts of the Rap Radar Podcast for his recollection of one of hip-hop’s most divisive and hostile periods. During the conversation, B. Dot inquires whether Snoop ever joined the speculation surrounding his then-record label senior Suge Knight as it related to his “involvement in certain activities or certain situations that may have went down in hip-hop.”

He responded that he wouldn’t know because he didn’t run in Suge’s circle that frequently. In fact, most of the television shows and series documenting that era, such as Unsolved, will evidence that.

“I watched that ‘Unsolved’ sh**,” he said. “I watched every f**king episode. Only one event they had with me in there: getting shot at in New York. I don’t know how the f*ck they found out about that, ’cause we ain’t never said nothin’ about that. Never! And they showed it the correct way, with Biggie calling the shot, getting us shot at.”

The incident Snoop referenced actually happened when he was on East Coast territory, in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to be exact. Tha Dogg Pound, his 1992-established rap collective, was in town shooting the music video for “New York, New York,” but a few of Biggie’s home turf hitters had an entirely different idea of the word “shoot.”

The Bible of Love artist recalled exactly how it all unfolded. He wanted New York to know that he came in peace, heading over to Funkmaster Flex at Hot 97 to announce to his Big Apple family and fans on the radio that they were welcome to pull up to the video shoot. Flex apparently rejected Snoop’s offer, and Tha Dogg Pound squad returned to Red Hook.

Later, Snoop continues in his story, they’d hear Big phone in on the radio station and put out the alert that Snoop and company were in town. He rallied them to make their entrance to the shoot, but not at all in the way Snoop hoped for. Unbeknownst to the West Coast crew, Big had actually put out a citywide hit on them, and the shooters pulled up to the shoot and went out with a bang—literally. Thankfully, no one was injured or worse in the shootout, and judging by Snoop’s humorous expression while running down the incident from 13 years ago, it’s all water under the bridge.

Hear the whole story, as told by Uncle Snoop, at the 46:30 mark in the video below.
