Nelly is reportedly gearing up to head overseas for a concert in Saudi Arabia in December. And while the rapper may be excited, it seems that a lot of people in the kingdom are not pleased. Apparently a number of conservatives are standing in protest of Nelly’s upcoming concert because of his association with drug activity and other illegal offenses.

Some Saudis are extremely angry with Nelly due to a 2015 case regarding marijuana possession, the Associated Press reports. According to past documents, Nelly was arrested on a Tennessee Highway in April 2015 after patrol officers pulled him and six others on his tour bus over for a traffic violation. After reportedly smelling marijuana, the authorities discovered drug paraphernalia on his tour bus.

The “Ride Wit Me” rapper pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced to one year of probation, which he was later cleared after 11 months. While it seems as though Nelly learned his lesson, some think it’s a bad sign. 

Smuggling drugs as well as possessing them is reportedly punishable by death in Saudi Arabia, according to AP. So unless he’s willing to take the risk, it’s most likely that Nelly will be on his best behavior.

But some are pointing at Nelly’s most recent legal issue, in which he was accused of raping a woman in October 2017. They claim it is “disgraceful” that Saudi Arabia’s Entertainment Authority would allow an alleged abuser perform. The “Hot In Herre” artist was initially arrested in October 2017 on the suspicion of second-degree rape, although the charges were later dropped.
