These Numbers Prove Drake’s Global Domination in 2015

The Toronto rapper racked up 1.8 billion streams on Spotify.

Drake’s had a successful year to say the least. He released two albums, defeated Meek Mill in a beef (although, it may not be over yet) and remained among the most relevant artists in the game.

Case in point, the Toronto native was recently named Spotify’s most listened-to artist of the year globally, according to AP. The announcement came Tuesday after he racked up 1.8 billion streams in 2015. Rihanna was this year’s most-streamed female artist and the Weeknd’s Beautify Behind the Madness was the most-streamed album.

It may’ve helped that Drizzy dropped two retail releases, first with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late from February (which was the year’s second most streamed album) and then his collaborative What a Time to Be Alive project with Future from September. He was also named the most listened to artist in the United States by the music streaming application. Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen" was the most-streamed song in America.

Ed Sheeran, who was named top-streaming artist last year, was second behind Drake globally. The Weeknd, Maroon 5 and Kanye West rounded out the top five for this year.
