This Theory About Jay-Z's '4:44' Album Title Will Blow Your Mind

Whoa.

Jay-Z is easily one of the most retrospective lyricists to grace wax. With the release of his latest magnum opus, 4:44, fans were offered a rare ultra-focus into the mogul's personal life — namely the scandals that have plagued his family. However, the latest theory regarding the title of Hov's 13th studio album has set the internet ablaze as fans still attempt to unwrap many of its underlying messages.

Initially, Hov evangelists and others alike were under the impression that 4:44 was simply an extension of the rapper's obsession with the number four. And, for obvious reasons: Jay was born on December 4, Beyoncé was born on September 4 and several important dates within their extended family can be connected to the number as well. Pretty straight-forward, right? Not quite.

On Wednesday (July 26), one Twitter user made a shocking revelation about the infamous 2014 elevator incident between the rapper and his sister-in-law Solange. The scuffle seen around the world was addressed out the gate by Jigga on the first track off 4:44, in which he admits, "You egg Solange on, knowing all along all you had to say was you was wrong." However, what he failed to reveal was that "444" also happens to be the listed address for the Le Bain, the swanky New York hotel the Carter/Knowles tribe was at when the incident went down.

While it's very possible that Jay drew inspiration from the address upon leaving the soirée, it's also reasonable to assume that the address has little to nothing to do with the numerology behind the album's title and is purely coincidence. In an interview with iHeartRadio, Jay-Z explained that 4:44’s title track, in which he apologizes to Beyoncé for his infidelity, refers to the time he woke up to write the song. “I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 a.m., to write this song," he said candidly.

"So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

Take a look at the tweet, which has since gone viral, as well as the mind-blowing theories which have followed below.
