Afroman Ordered Into Anger Management for Punching Female Fan

Grammy-nominated artist pleads guilty to assault.

Afroman won’t be doing jail time for punching a fan that made her way to the stage during one of his performances in February. The rapper, best known for the 15-year-old single “Because I Got High,” pled guilty to assault charges in Mississippi this morning and received a six-month suspended sentence, pending good behavior.

A judge ordered him into anger management and he must submit to drug testing. If Afroman,  whose birth name is Joseph Edgar Foreman, fails to complete the probation terms he faces six months behind bars.

The victim, Haley Byrd, was in court today. Byrd has been diagnosed with a concussion after being hit in the jaw, and is suing the rapper in addition to Kress Live, where the Afroman performance and subsequent altercation occurred. "We've gotten information that they had some issues with their security, and that's going to be a question for them,” said her attorney.

Afroman has since apologized for hitting Byrd.
