Jennifer Hudson Files Protective Order Against Her Fiance

The order may have something to do with abuse.

Jennifer Hudson and longtime fiancé David Otunga have reportedly called it quits after a 10-year engagement. In addition to pulling the plug, Hudson reportedly filed a protective order against her ex, citing that it would be “in the best interest” of their 8-year-old son, People reports.

The couple has reportedly been in the process of splitting up for months now, according to sources close to the family. They have also appeared in court numerous times within the last year to settle child custody matters. While it’s unclear what drove Hudson to seek protection, Otunga's attorney, Tracy M. Rizzo, asserts that it has nothing to do with physical or verbal abuse.

“Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him,” she said in a statement. “Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”

The new reports may come as a bit of a shock to some fans. Earlier in the year, Hudson appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where she gushed about her relationship. Hudson and Otunga reportedly became engaged in 2008. They welcomed their only child one year later in Aug. 2009.
