Janelle Monae's Cousin Killed in Kansas City

"Evil has no race."

Janelle Monáe took to Twitter today (August 31) to share the devastating news that her family has been the latest affected by gun violence.

As reported, Monáe’s 37-year-old cousin, Natasha Hays, was killed during a drive-by shooting early Tuesday (August 30) in Kansas City. She was a mother of three.

During the time of the horrific shooting, Hays was asleep in the house when shots were fired. Her three children were not harmed during the incident.

“Gun violence has struck home,” the singer wrote. “My beautiful first cousin was murdered. She was a mother of 3. Loved by her community. #NatashaHays #Sayhername.”

Monáe then went on to share that no one deserves to lose their loved ones due to the “hands of evil.”

“Gun violence is still keeping our city in a dark place,” she continued. “The fear of, ‘Who is next?’ never leaves. Praying4more light. Help us."

“Evil has no race," she added.

At this time, police are still investigating what happened and no arrests have currently been made.

Our condolences go out to Janelle and her family during this heartbreaking time.
