Snoop Dogg Hosts 'No Guns Allowed: Fallout From Ferguson'

The Doggfather and the League of Young Voters linked for anti-violence discussion during BET Hip Hop Awards weekend.

Snoop Dogg hosted “No Guns Allowed: Fallout From Ferguson” in Atlanta last week, an event aimed at ending gun violence. Held during the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards weekend, the intimate breakfast and discussion was the latest collaboration between Snoop and the League of Young Voters.

The League’s executive director, Dr. Robert “Biko” Baker, moderated the day’s dialog, which was centered around gun violence, race relations, and the fallout in Ferguson, MO., after 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot by a police officer.

Speaking specifically about gun violence as it relates to gangs, Snoop said that his goal was to help the West Coast curb some of the appeal of gang banging. “L.A. is known for gang banging, we’re one of the originators of gang banging,” he said. “So if we can get together to find a way to work together and end the gang violence, hopefully with the help of you guys, we’ll be able to go around the globe and go to our urban and inner cities and rid the violence. And give these kids something [else] to aspire to other than being a gang member or a drug dealer.”

Other “Fallout From Ferguson” participants include Ferguson youth group Lost Voices; St. Louis rapper and activist Tef PoeChuck Creekmur, CEO and founder of AllHipHop.com; and Lucia McBath, mother of slain Florida teen Jordan Davis and national spokesperson for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Brown’s family was also in attendance.
