K. Michelle Tearfully Breaks Down During Radio Interview: ‘I Was Really Sick’

A fan suffering from cancer led to a sticky situation for the R&B songstress.

R&B singer-songwriter K. Michelle’s interview with D.C.’s The Fam in the Morning radio show took an emotional turn when she discussed some recent career drawbacks as a result of her lupus diagnosis.

Most importantly, she doesn’t want to let down the people who support her the most, which she explained through a tearful moment that all of her fans should hear.

K explained how her health took a huge toll on her productivity as an artist, even costing her a fan-anticipated meet and greet with 93.9’s The Fam in the Morning. According to DJQuik Silva, a fan who suffered from cancer was so anxious to meet K that she even skipped one of her chemotherapy treatments for the event. But when the Kimberly: The People I Used to Know artist was a no-show, the station blackballed her.  Sadly, she’d lost support of many people she believed should have her back at such a pivotal time—such as the radio stations.

“It’s been, like, over a year of, ‘Oh, we’re not going to play her music, we’re not going to do this and that,’ and I’m like, yo, I was really sick,” she said before her tears consumed her. DjQuik Silva consoled her for a minute before she continued discussing that she’d never intentionally cold shoulder her fans.

“I pay my fans bills every month, I get in group chats, I talk to them,” she said. “I’ve never let my fans down.”

In addition to her record dropping from music charts in the midst of her illness, she still tirelessly worked to explain the situation. Now that she was able to explain what really happened, we’re happy to know that she and The Fam have put it all behind them and she’s properly maintaining her health in the early days of 2018.
