Erykah Badu Says Jay Electronica Doesn't Need to Make an Album

She also remembers shooting her infamous "Window Seat" video.

Erykah Badu doesn’t do much press, but when she does, the music world is all eyes and ears.

This morning, Fat Belly Bella made her first ever appearance on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club and talked about a slew of topics, including her former mate Jay Electronica. Jay himself made a surprise appearance on camera, which prompted Erykah to talk about his musical legacy.

“Jay doesn’t need to make an album,” she said when asked about his career. “He can make one if he want to, but he don’t need to do that. I don’t think that everyone needs to make an album or needs to do something. He’s an amazing emcee and an amazing all kind of different things too.”

Prior to that, she talked about her infamous “Window Seat” video and describes how uncomfortable she felt initially before shooting it.

“It was just one take, guerrilla style. It wasn’t rehearsed or anything. It was just one of those things,” she said when asked about the video. “You not supposed to look scared but I was. It was a ritual of sorts for me because, you know, I’m thinking in my mind, with each piece or layer of clothing I was taking off, I was shedding a layer of fear.”

Erykah Badu also talked about all three of her relationships with legendary emcees. She was asked whether she thinks she was responsible for Andre 3000’s wardrobe change and even said Common is the most compassionate man she’s ever met. Badu is slated to release her forthcoming mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone, on November 27, which was confirmed on the show.
