Kevin Hart Issues New Apology To The LGBTQ Community Over Offensive Remarks

The comedian explains why he thinks he gets it, now.

Kevin Hart wants the world to know that Kevin Hart is sorry.

In a new apology — offered, in part, in the third person — the comedian revisited his controversial commentary on past anti-gay remarks he made and, in the same breath, attempted to explain why he now sees why the marginalized group was offended by his words.

According to NBC News, Hart appeared on his SiriusXM radio show on Monday morning where he continued the narrative surrounding his disparaging comments about the LGBTQ community.

"Once again, Keivn Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community," he said. "I apologize."

The now extended scandal first began when Hart publicly stepped down from hosting the 91st Annual Academy Awards, back in early December 2018, after his past homophobic tweets resurfaced online. After refusing to initially apologize for the offensive words — claiming that he had already done so — he announced that he would no longer be accepting the hosting gig. Due to this, criticism against him only continued to accumulate.

During the Monday broadcast of his radio show, however, he shared a much different outlook that he had at the time of his first non-apology-apology.

"We thought it was OK to talk like that, because that's how we talked to one another... This is wrong now," he said on the show. "Because now we're in a space where I'm around people of the LGBTQ community, and I'm now aware of how these words make them feel, and why they say, 'That s**t hurt because of what I've been through.'"

His latest comments come days after Ellen DeGeneres tried, during a sit-down interview on her talk show, to convince him to reconsider hosting the major award ceremony. While he told her, at the time, that he would "evaluate" his decision and get back to her, it appears as he's ultimately decided to walk away, for good.

"I don't have time to prepare and do it correctly," he said. "The microscope on me is so f****ng thick that they're looking for everything. So anything, anything that I say that's not appropriate, that's wrong... you're gonna pick me apart."
