John Boyega Responds to Star Wars Racist Backlash

Actor tells haters to "get used to it."

John Boyega has just four words for the vocal minority of Star Wars fans who have an issue with a Black actor being a part of the beloved franchise: "Get used to it."
The actor made his grand debut as a stormtrooper in the first trailer for the film, which dropped online last week. In fact, Boyega's face was the first audiences saw on the screen, implying that his role in the film — the plot is being kept tightly under wraps — is significantly big.
While most, especially those that saw Boyega kill it in his feature film debut, Attack the Block, were thrilled to see the British actor in the stormtrooper uniform, others were not. People on Reddit compared the trailer to a scene from the 1987 Mel Brooks spoof Space Balls, a gag that plays up a Black stormtrooper as "jive-talkin." On Twitter, some even tried to defend their racism using supposed internal Star Wars logic, claiming the prequels reveal that all stormtroopers were white clones.
Boyega posted a message to his Instagram thanking his fans for all the positive feedback from the trailer release:
"Thank you for all the love and support! The fan mail and fan art has added to my joy! Isn't it crazy that Star Wars is actually happening? I'm in the movie but as a Star Wars fan I am very excited. A year is a long time but it will be worth the wait."

At the end, he added a simple message for his haters: "To whom it may concern: Get used to it. :)"
