Box Office: American Sniper Tops Again
American Sniper strikes again. The Oscar-nominated war film won the weekend box office for the second week in a row with a whopping $64.4 million gross, bringing its domestic total to just over $200 million.
The Clint Eastwood-directed flick starring Bradley Cooper is breaking box office records, even as controversy surrounds its seemingly pro-war message. Coming in second place is The Boy Next Door, starring Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Guzman, which earned a solid $15 million in its first weekend. Looks like J. Lo's efforts to promote the film have paid off!
Third place went to the family film Paddington, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Bonneville, which grossed an additional $12.4 million for a $40.1 million total. Rounding out the top five were Kevin Hart‘s comedy The Wedding Ringer and Liam Neeson‘sTaken 3, which brought in $11.6 million and $7.6 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow‘s new comedy Mortdecai fell below expectations, only making $4.1 million — on par with the film's dismal critical reviews.
Next week, Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer and Anthony Mackie tackle race in family court in Black or White.
