Box Office: Focus Takes Down 50 Shades of Grey

Will Smith's heist flick comes in first place.

The king of the box office is back on this throne. Will Smith scored a much-needed number one hit with Focus. The film debuted to $19.1 million and managed to take down Fifty Shades of Grey from the top spot. Despite climbing to first place, Focus — the A-lister's first film since the 2013 disaster After Earth -- still marked one of the lowest openings of Smith's career.
Coming in second place was Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson, which brought in $11.8 million for a domestic total of $85.7 million. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water took the third spot with an additional $11.2 million.
Rounding out the top five were Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey and horror-thriller The Lazarus Effect, which earned $10.9 million and $10.6 million, respectively.
Next week, Neill Blomkamp's Chappie goes up against Vince Vaughn and Dave Franco in the workplace comedy Unfinished Business.
