Banks Family Feud: Carlton Claps Back at Aunt Viv After Will Smith Diss

The #OscarsSoWhite conversation continues...

Will Smith's Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Alfonso Ribeiro is coming to his defense after his former TV mom Janet Hubert slammed Will over the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. Speaking with TMZ, the actor had some simple encouraging words for Will: it's just not that big of a deal.

"I think the Oscars are the least of our problems," he said. "We have to understand how to stay together while making our point without destroying other people's perspective of it and killing their point of view."

When talking about the standards of recognition and acceptance in the film industry, the AFV host said that it's really the consumers' opinions who matter above anyone else's:

"The award for what you do in this industry is having people watch what you do," he continued. "Having other people who are in your industry [who] may or may not see it the same way is not that important to me."

When asked specifically if he thought Will should have received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Concussion, it was a no-brainer for Alfonso. "I absolutely believe that," he said. "I might be a little biased but I think I'm also capable of going and seeing the film and watching the performance and meeting the actual doctor and watching him speak, and hearing what Will did with the accent... I thought it was fantastic. It was the best work he has done."
