Charlamagne Tha God: Stereotypes Are Wack
Still reeling off the fact that 17-year-old Kylie Jenner recently re-sparked the Great American Race Debate, Charlamagne Tha God took a bold stance in her defense.
"This week was all about people telling other people how they should look," he said in his latest segment of "Righteous Ratchetness" for his new show Uncommon Sense on MTV2. "Kylie can't wear braids, Serena [Williams] can't be diesel, Caitlyn [Jenner] can't be a woman..."
"Look," he continued, "stereotypes are wack. Having a bunch of over-simplified images of a particular type of person is so stupid. I don't want anybody telling me what I can and can't wear, what hairstyles I can and can't rock [one guest, Crissle of Beats 1 –– among other spaces –– interjected at one point to point out that if Jenner were Black, she couldn't wear her cornrows in the military], and how I should or shouldn't be talking.
"Imagine if Barack Obama subscribed to the stereotype that only old white men could be president. What if Eminem believed only Black people could be great at rapping? What if Bill Cosby..."
Well, we'll let that joke play out in video.
"All I'm saying is, treat stereotypes like rules," Charlamagne concluded. "They're made to be broken."
Coincidentally, his message comes in good timing for Post Malone's "White Iverson" video, which became a Trending Topic today (warning: cultural appropriation watchers, this one may be NSFW).
