Brittney Griner Says It Was a 'Huge Mistake' Marrying Glory Johnson

Brittney Griner has finally broken her silence about what went down between her and her soon-to-be ex-wife Glory Johnson over the past month. The WNBA star filed for an annulment to the marriage just 28 days after she and Johnson tied the knot. To complicate matters further, Johnson announced her pregnancy just days before Griner dropped the news of the split.
Now, Griner says the marriage was a "huge mistake" and that she had reservations about walking down the aisle with Johnson so soon after their double arrest for domestic violence, but felt pressured to keep the wedding on track. We get it — nonrefundable deposits and all.

“Prior to us getting married, I knew I shouldn’t have went through with it and I talked to Glory about it but sometimes you feel pressured into things,” Griner explained to ESPN. “I went along with it and I knew I shouldn’t have and it was a huge mistake.”
She adds that she feels they should have waited until they had worked out their issues before tying the knot. “With everything going on — counseling, classes — it just wasn’t the right way to start off a marriage,” she said. “I wanted to take time to get myself right and…we both agreed to it this past Wednesday to get a divorce, annulment, and it is in writing in text messages as well,” she added, contradicting Johnson's claims that she was blindsided by the annulment news.
Asked about Johnson's pregnancy, Griner didn't have much to say about how she plans to handle that situation, but did seem skeptical about the timing of the announcement (Johnson shared the news on Instagram). "It's very early," Griner said of the pregnancy, adding that she doesn't understand why Johnson would reveal the news so soon.
Griner broke down in tears when asked how she would describe the past year. "Emotional," was her answer. How does she plan to cope? "Submerge myself in basketball," she said.
Obviously, Johnson will be sitting out the upcoming WNBA season, so we won't see the exes face off on the court.
Watch Griner talk about her memoir — which could probably use a few extra chapters at this point — loving yourself, basketball and more in our exclusive interview below:
