Box Office: No Good Deed Defeats A Dolphin Tale 2

Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson thriller finishes in first place.

After six weeks at the top, Guardians of the Galaxy finally abdicated the box office throne, making way for a new champion. No Good Deed, starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, took the top spot this weekend, earning $24.5 million.
The thriller easily beat out family-friendly A Dolphin Tale 2, starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd, which grossed $16.6 million. Guardians of the Galaxy dropped to third place, but had the distinction of becoming the first film of 2014 to hit the $300 million mark in domestic ticket sales. Globally, the film has grossed $611 million.
Rounding out the top five were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Let's Be Cops, with $4.8 and $4.3 million, respectively.
Next week, action thriller The Maze Runner will give No Good Deed a run for its money while This is Where I Leave You will work on capturing art house audiences.
