Gina Rodriguez Apologizes To The ‘Community Of Color’ For Using The N-Word

The actress issued a statement after her first “apology” fell flat.

Gina Rodriguez came under fire on Tuesday (October 15) after posting a video of her using the N-word while reciting the lyrics to The Fugees' 1996 hit "Ready or Not."

After being called out for her use of the offensive term, the Jane the Virgin star returned to social media to issue a watered down "apology" which many slammed for being insincere.

"I just wanted to reach out and apologize," she said.  "I am sorry. I am sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to The Fugees, to a song I love, that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill, and I really am sorry if I offended you."

The actress, who has had a history of spewing anti-Black rhetoric, returned to Instagram soon after to give the apology another try. This time, she attempted to take responsibility for her actions, owning up to offending the Black community, which she interestingly referred to as "the community of color."

"The word I sang carried with it a legacy of hurt and pain that I cannot even imagine," she wrote. "I feel so deeply protective and responsible to the community of color but I have let this community down. I have some serious learning and growing to do and I am so deeply sorry for the pain I have caused."

Let's hope that, after so many chances, she actually chooses to do better this time.
