Being propelled into the spotlight is to be expected when your daughter is preparing to marry into royalty. Thomas Markle, father of newly engaged Meghan Markle, has gone to severe extremes to keep his identity under the radar after news of her engagement to Prince Harry went viral.

According to DailyMail.co.uk, Markle has reportedly “avoided using social media, concealed his address even from members of his family, and urged the handful of trusted friends who know where he is living not to betray his whereabouts.”

While it may come as a surprise that Markle, a retired TV lighting director, is evading the public eye, it only scratches the surface of his elusive behavior. During the couple’s interview celebrating their engagement, Markle revealed her father has never met his soon to be son-in-law. “He’s talked to my dad a few times; hasn’t been able to meet him just yet.”

Despite steering clear of the spotlight, Markle was involved in his daughter’s engagement. Prince Harry reportedly asked for Meghan’s hand in marriage over the phone.
