Ant-Man Crawls to First Place at the Box Office
Marvel’s Ant-Man won the weekend, coming in first place at the box office with $58 million in ticket sales. But the film's producers are probably not popping champagne just yet: despite it's placement this weekend, the superhero flick had the lowest-grossing debut for a Marvel film since The Incredible Hulk.
Second place went to the animated film Minions, which scored an additional $50.2 million in its second weekend. Amy Schumer and Bill Hader‘s new comedy Trainwreck — featuring LeBron James in an exciting supporting role — debuted to an impressive $30.2 million. The success of the comedy was largely on the back of a female audience, who made up 66% of ticket buyers.
Rounding out the top five were Inside Out and Jurassic World, earning $11.7 million and $11.4 million, respectively.
Next week, Antoine Fuqua's Southpaw will seek to claim the title of box office champ against teen romantic drama Paper Towns and animated family film Pixels.
