Casting News: The Rock Adds Alpha Squad Seven , Jennifer Hudson Joins Chiraq
Dwayne Johnson is giving Kevin Hart a run for the title of Hardest Working Man in Hollywood. The actor has added yet another project to his already crowded slate — which includes the upcoming San Andreas, the new HBO series Ballers, Central Intelligence with the aforementioned Mr. Hart and the new Disney movie Moana.
The Furious 7 star is adding sci-fi film Alpha Squad Seven to the pile, described as a “four-quadrant action-comedy adventure set in space.” It will be a while before this one goes before the cameras, though, as The Rock, along with his producing partner Beau Flynn and the film's writers, is still developing the project.
"Can’t wait to create these characters for y’all," Johnson tweeted to his fans on Monday. "Handsome, charming, a**-kicking, flawed and slightly cranky of a hero leading the one and only Alpha Squad into space. And he may bring along some bald dude named Rock."
Jennifer Hudson, meanwhile, will join Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack for Spike Lee's Chiraq, a musical comedy about a man who aims to end gang violence in Chicago, modeled on the Greek play Lysistrata.
With the announcement of American Idol's end, J.Hud is topping many people's lists of the shows biggest standouts. The singer and actress has become so successful in her own right — hello, Oscar! — that it's easy to forget she got her start on the competition series.
