Sheryl Underwood Recalls Getting Dissed by Queens of Comedy

Says she caught fellow comedians talking smack about her.

The ladies of The Talk put themselves in the hot seat this week by revealing their deepest secrets. On Thursday’s episode, it was Sheryl Underwood’s turn, and according to her confession there may not be much of a sisterhood among her fellow female comedians.

Underwood revealed she was up for a part on The Queens of Comedy tour following the departure of Mo’Nique, but before she had a chance to accept the role, she overheard three stars of the show talking smack about her on a conference call. According to Underwood, she caught Laura HayesAdele Givens and Sommore dissing her comedic abilities — and her appearance — without realizing she was on the line.

“There’s a conference call…I dialed in…I hear Sommore, Adele Givens and Laura Hayes all talking about me…I hear discussions about my appearance, my ability…I was startled and hurt…I was bruised, but I wasn’t broken,” Underwood revealed.

Understandably, the incident caused Underwood to decline an offer to be on the show and work side by side with her haters on a daily basis. The comedian also said that she has worked with Hayes and Givens since the incident, but up until now, the three women did not know that she overheard the phone call.

After revealing her secret, Underwood insisted that she’s not angry or upset at her peers over the phone call that she happened over 20 years ago. “I decided instead of being angry and vengeful, I took the truth and made myself even better,” she said.

The three comedians have not yet commented on Underwood's story.
