President Obama and Chris Rock Say Goodbye to David Letterman
David Letterman left his post as the host of the Late Show in style last night. The iconic talk show host, who has manned the desk at the Ed Sullivan Theater for the past 33 years, ended his run in a relatively low-key manner, save for the parade of celebrity guests who stopped by to bid him adieu.
Among his famous well-wishers was the president of the United States, who capped off a hilarious montage of presidents saying "our long national nightmare is over" with a few extra words: "Our long, national nightmare is over," said Obama. "Letterman is retiring."
Chris Rock also participated in the finale as one of the celebs who helped Letterman run down his final Top 10 List, "Top 10 Things I've Always Wanted to Say to Dave." After Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Murray, Barbara Walters and others had their turn, Rock added, "I’m just glad your show is being given to another white guy!" Letterman laughed and said, "You know I had nothing to do with that."
Stephen Colbert will certainly have big shoes to fill when he takes over the Late Show this fall.
