RuPaul Has a Serious Message for Privileged Straight Women Who Love Gay Men

Listen up.

RuPaul is not one to hold his tongue when speaking up for the LGBT community.

The pop culture icon showed just that during an appearance on The Dinner Party Download podcast, sharing some advice for straight women who want to host their bachelorette parties at gay bars and see gay men as accessories.

To put it simply, the RuPaul's Drag Race host and face simply said, just don't do it.

"Check yourself before you wreck yourself," he said. "You know, this is an important thing: People who live in the mainstream and the status quo think that everyone else is there to serve them."

He went on to explain that several straight people ask him to show them the ropes of makeup as he has a long-standing career in drag, but he's refused.

"So, I'm a brown-skinned gay man," he said. "You know, I do drag. Early on, I learned that I could do it well and make money. So, people automatically ask me about beauty tips. And I get kids who write me and say, 'I wish you could do my makeup for my prom,' or 'I wish you could do my makeup for my wedding.' I'm like, 'B***h, I'm not a makeup artist. I'm an entertainer, OK?'"

Continuing to stress that he's not here for others' entertainment at their disposal, he added that he, like other gay men, do not exist to serve as accessories.

"People don't know how to place me in their consciousness," he added. "They think, 'Oh, you must be here to make me look good. That's what gay guys are, right? You're an accessory for my straight life.' Just because your limited view is that everyone's there to serve you and that you're the only person in the world... It doesn't work that way."
