Despite his weekend box office smash with Boo! A Madea Halloween, Tyler Perry says that he still feels like his movies are reaching a limited audience, and he wants that to change.

Speaking with The Wrap, he explained that his new film was shown on less screens than the second place box office holder, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, which premiered on 3,780 screens — 1,500 more than Madea.

"I still have issues getting screens in white neighborhoods, believe it or not," he said. "I think the numbers could have been bigger had people who are in the white suburbs had the option to go to their own theaters to see it. It's something I've been dealing with for many, many years."

Though Perry feels like the movie should have had a broader release, Lionsgate begs to differ, saying they stand by its initial theatrical release strategy. They also pointed out that it will eventually be released on just about the same number of screens as his previous films.
