Jamie Foxx On Colin Kaepernick And NFL Protests: 'Let’s Go Back To The Original Situation'
The news has been engulfed with headlines surrounding Colin Kaepernick and the highly publicized NFL protests for the past few weeks, with several famous figures coming forward to share their opinions on the ongoing hot topic.
The latest to do so is Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx. who stopped by First Take to share his thoughts on the highly intensified controversy, even offering a solution to what he described as "the original situation" that many seem to be ignoring.
The Baby Driver star started by reverting the narrative to the scenario that started the now widespread protest, stressing that it needs to be refocused so that the initial message is not lost.
"You have to speak to this. We’re grown men out here. It’s 2017. Let’s go back to the original situation of why Colin Kaepernick knelt," he said. "It’s because we were seeing on TV or on social media Black men being shot by the police officers in front of kids. First of all, we need to do something about that."
Expounding on his point, he offered a solution to the problem, involving a mutual meeting of the minds to solve the dynamic divide between the police and the targeted African-American community.
"Like, what I’m trying to do, [I think we need to] grab police officers, African-American males, put them in a room together," he said. "Don’t talk about any issues. Just let them talk to each other. Just let them see a different perception of people."
So, who is responsible for it all? According to Jamie, our government officials and political leaders are at fault and need to be held accountable.
"When you look at sports, we are still supposed to be having fun with sports," he continued. "I think the cowards in this are our political leaders who are supposed to be taking up these issues and actually taking a little bit of that off of us. Since they’re not, we have to do that, but we have to be proactive in how we talk about the situation."
