Guess Which Franchise Creed Director Ryan Coogler Is Being Tapped For

The Fruitvale Station filmmaker is hitting the big leagues.

Ryan Coogler's career is blowing up after the success of Creed at the box office. The director, whose Sundance-favorite Fruitvale Station was one of the biggest indie films of 2013, definitely took a big step up into commercial film territory with the Rocky sequel. Now he may be up for his most high-profile gig yet: joining the Marvel family as the director of Black Panther.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Coogler has been on a short list for the job since back in September, after Ava DuVernay passed, but Marvel Studios was reluctant to commit to someone with only one film under his belt. Creed's critical and commercial success clearly changed all that.
While the pairing is not yet official, it looks like an announcement will be made soon. Chadwick Boseman is already set to star as the hero, whose name is T’Challa, the head of the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
