Rankin's official Twitter page also confirmed his death, writing, "It saddens us to have to announce that The 'ORIGINAL DON DADA' 'Trail Blazer' the legend - Louie Ox Rankin passed away this morning!"

Most may remember Rankin from his role as Jamaican drug lord Lennox, a.k.a. Ox, in the 1998 film Belly, which also starred rappers DMX and Nas. Rankin and Nas remained particularly close following the film's release and later reunited in 2016 to collaborate on DJ Khaled's track "Nas Album Done."

"That album bout to drop!!!" he wrote. "Can you smell what the Ox is cooking?!"

A respected reggae and dancehall artist, Rankin released a huge single in 1992 titled "Typewriter," which earned him a Grammy.

We send our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
