Leslie Jones Promoted to Regular SNL Cast Member

The comedian started as a writer earlier this year.

Saturday Night Live just added a fresh face to its regular lineup. According to People, comedian Leslie Jones is the latest woman to join the sketch comedy show as a full-fledged cast member for its 40th season. Jones first joined the SNL team as a writer after being denied the coveted spot last fall that ultimately went to Sasheer Zamata.

Though her big break took some time, the comedian managed to make an impression on the show's creater, Lorne Michaels, after making appearances on Weekend Update.

What is even more impressive is that Jones will keep her job as a writer while she kills the stage every Saturday night on the live program. Her first official appearance as a full-time cast member will air on October 25, alongside celebrity host Jim Carrey.
