Box Office: Nobody Cares About Moby Dick

In the Heart of the Sea is a shipwreck with $11 million.

The only new film to open in wide release at the box office this weekend went down like the Titanic. In the Heart of the Sea, directed by Ron Howard and starring Chris Hemsworth, is actually about the wreck that inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick. Well, not too many people cared to see how it all turned out as the film, which cost nearly $100 million to make, only drew $11 million in ticket sales.
In the Heart of the Sea couldn't knock Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 out of the top spot, adding another $11.3 million to its till. Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur picked up third place, earning $10.5 million, while Creed was close behind with $10.1 million and domestic total now at $79.3 million. Krampus fell to fifth in its second weekend, with $8 million.
Next week, all other films will run and hide once Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally hits theaters after months of anticipation. Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey's Sisters also opens, for those few who could care less about Jedis.
