Nas and Erykah Badu Are Going Hollywood

The artists lend their talents to Sundance-bound The Land.

Last year's Sundance favorite Dope showed us what's possible when hip hop and independent film come together. Now, Nas and Erykah Badu are hoping to recreate the magic with The Land.
Badu stars in the film, about four teenage boys who pursue professional skateboarding as a way of escaping the streets of Cleveland, only to get caught up with a local drug queen-pin, and Nas has just signed on to produce the soundtrack. He will also executive produce the film, along with super-agent Charles King. Steve Caple Jr. directed the film, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
“Huge fan of my man Steve Caple Jr. I think he can become the next great filmmaker," said Nas. "Also, very excited to be working with my former agent and friend Charles King on his first film with his new venture. All great energy around the film, which I believe will yield amazing results."
Nas is no stranger to providing music for films. His work can be seen in The Departed, Dope, Project X and the current blockbuster Creed. Watch the iconoclastic rapper talk about his biographical documentary Time Is Illmatic, below:
