Watch: Jada Pinkett Smith Shares a Shocking Detail About Her Relationship With Tupac

She has never talked about this publicly.

When most people describe Jada Pinkett Smith they come up with the adjectives “talented,” “beautiful” and “versatile.”

“Drug dealer” isn’t really one of them, but if we’re talking about her past, it may be an apt characterization. At least that’s what Jada herself is claiming.

She made an appearance on Sway in the Morning Wednesday (July 19) and when she was asked about her sacred relationship with Tupac, she revealed for the first time publicly that she met the hip-hop legend from selling drugs.

“When we first met, I was a drug dealer,” she said. “I won’t get into the details of it ‘cause I’m going to write a book about it, but that’s how we started, then as I was coming out, something very bad happened to me — as I was coming out of that life, he was going more into the life.”

Pinkett Smith didn’t want to go too much into detail about it because she also revealed that she’s going to be writing a book about ‘Pac and their early relationship. She did mention that all the new Tupac revelations around his new biopic has made her uncomfortable, to say the least.

“I’ve been having sort of an existential crisis around ‘Pac because, I was coming out, he was going in and there was a point at which we met and then we were kind of going our separate ways,” she said. “I just felt like, ‘OK, God, one day you’re going to do for ‘Pac what you did for me, which is you saved me.” And that just never happened for him. That’s something I’m constantly having to confront — that missing component that neither one of us has discussed ‘cause ‘Pac and I’s relationship was about survival. That’s how it started and I know that most people want to connect it in this romance thing, and that’s just ‘cause they don’t have the story.”

Jada Pinkett Smith stars in the new movie Girls Trip, which will hit theaters this Friday (July 21). Check out the full Sway in the Morning interview below. The 'Pac stuff comes in at around the 16-minute mark.
