Which Celebrity Called the Oscars the 'White BET Awards'?

Plus, Jada Pinkett Smith is disappointed over Will's snub.

This year's Oscar nominations are rightly getting a lot of flack for failing to recognize the contributions of any filmmakers of color. Even in the case of the two films backed by Black Hollywood that did earn nods — Straight Outta Compton and Creed — only the white talent associated with the movies were recognized (screenwriters Andrea Berloff and Jonathan Herman for the NWA biopic, and Sylvester Stallone for the Rocky spinoff).
Of the many people speaking their minds about #OscarsSoWhite, one tweet in particular caught out attention. Chris Rock shared his thoughts about the controversy along with his first ad for the awards show, which he is hosting:

Of course, Rock has hosted both awards shows, so he oughta know. What the comedian cheekily points out is that while the Oscars celebrates white folks and routinely leaves out people of color from their nominations, the BET Awards focuses primarily on the accomplishments of Black celebrities and artists.

One person who seems to agree with Rock's biting assessment is Jada Pinkett Smith, whose husband Will Smith was snubbed this year despite a buzzworthy performance in Concussion. "At the Oscars, people of color are always welcomed to give out awards, even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments," she tweeted. "Should people of color refrain from participating all together?"
Preach, Jada.

Though this was not Will Smith's year for a nomination, check out the actor humbly talk about his craft in our exclusive interview below:
